Why Use Sedation?
While most people do not look forward to visiting the dentist, there are some who suffer a genuine anxiety that is overwhelming. Sedation dentistry offers those patients a variety of options for making their visit bearable and comfortable. Pebble Beach Dental offers oral conscious sedation for mild to moderate anxiety.
TYPES OF SEDATION
Mild to Moderate anxiety – For any patient with stronger than average anxiety, conscious sedation relieves the anxiety in a safe and effective way. This treatment administers a sedative tranquilizer in a pill form. Vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure. Those who use conscious sedation will be greatly relaxed throughout the dental appointment and may even fall asleep. They are, however, never “unconscious” and they can be readily aroused at any time. Once the sedation effect wears off, the patient will have little or no memory of the procedure. He will need to be driven home and accompanied for the rest of the day.
Dentists who administer oral sedation are required to undergo many hours of additional education so that they can be certified to use this method. Sedation dentistry is safe and used regularly by millions of patients. Don’t let fear keep you from receiving the dental attention that you need!
The level of sedation may be increased or lowered as necessary during the procedure.
- It leaves no “hangover” side effect.
- It carries no “small print” side effects on the organs of your body.
- It essentially removes the “gag” reflex during the dental procedures.
- It acts quickly.
