Rebuild the Foundation for Your New Smile

Bone Grafting in Fair Oaks — Restore Lost Jawbone for Safe, Predictable Dental Implants

When teeth are lost or removed, the jawbone underneath begins to shrink. If too much bone has been lost, implants cannot be placed safely — unless we rebuild the bone first. Bone grafting is the procedure that makes that possible. For many patients, it is the difference between hearing “you are not a candidate for implants” and walking out with a permanent new smile.

Worried About Bone Loss? We Can Rebuild It.

What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is a procedure where new bone material is placed in areas of the jaw where bone has been lost — most often due to long-term tooth loss, advanced gum disease, or trauma. Once placed, the graft material acts as a scaffold that your body integrates with its own bone, restoring the strength and volume needed to anchor a dental implant. Materials can include processed bone (sourced from approved tissue banks), synthetic bone, or in some cases bone harvested from elsewhere in your own jaw. Your doctor recommends the right approach at your consultation.

Who Needs Bone Grafting?

The You may need bone grafting if you:

  • Have been told you don’t have enough bone for implants
  • Have worn traditional dentures for many years (bone loss accelerates without tooth roots)
  • Have had teeth missing for a long time
  • Have advanced gum disease that damaged the bone
  • Want to upgrade from dentures to a fixed implant restoration

You don’t have to know if you’re a candidate before coming in. That is what the free consultation — including an in-office 3D CT scan and full exam — is for.

The Bone Grafting Process

A clear, comfortable path from a 3D CT scan to a fully restored jaw ready for implants.

1

3D Imaging & Diagnosis

Our in-office i-CAT 3D imaging system maps your bone in three dimensions. We see exactly where bone is missing, how much needs to be rebuilt, and what graft approach will work best.

2

Graft Placement

Bone graft material is placed in the deficient area under local anesthesia, with sedation available. The procedure is faster and more comfortable than most patients expect — often done in a single appointment.

3

Healing & Bone Integration

Over 3-6 months, your body integrates the graft material with your own bone, creating a strong new foundation. You wear comfortable temporaries during this time.

4

Implant Placement

Once the bone has healed and integrated, your implants are placed into the rebuilt bone. From there, your final implant restoration follows the standard implant timeline.

Why Bone Grafting Matters

Makes Implants Possible

For patients who have been told they are not candidates for implants, bone grafting often changes that answer. Many of our patients who needed grafting before implant placement are now living with permanent restored smiles.

Long-Term Implant Stability

Implants placed into properly restored bone last longer, function better, and are less prone to complications down the road. The investment in bone grafting protects the investment in implants.

Preserves Facial Structure

Bone loss in the jaw causes the sunken, aged look common in long-term denture wearers. Rebuilding the bone preserves the natural shape of your face.

Predictable Results

Modern bone grafting techniques have a very high success rate. Combined with 3D planning, the outcome is consistent, predictable, and well-tolerated.

Minimally Invasive

Most bone grafts are done with small incisions under local anesthesia, often in a single appointment. Sedation is available for patient comfort.

Combined With Other Procedures

When possible, we combine grafting with tooth extractions or other procedures to shorten your overall treatment timeline. Your consultation maps the most efficient path.

Real Patients. Real Foundations.

Meet John, a 52-year-old who was told by another dentist that he was not a candidate for implants due to bone loss. After bone grafting and a healing period, John received a complete restoration. Today he eats what he wants, smiles freely in family photos, and tells us he wishes he had done it years sooner.

Bone Grafting — Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the bone graft procedure take?

Most bone graft procedures are completed in a single appointment of 1-2 hours under local anesthesia. Complex cases may take longer or require multiple visits, which we explain at your consultation.

Is bone grafting painful?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia with sedation available. Most patients report the recovery is much milder than they expected — most need only a day or two of mild discomfort.

How long does bone graft healing take?

Bone grafts typically take 3-6 months to fully integrate with your existing bone before implants can be placed. Some smaller grafts can be done at the same time as implant placement.

How much does bone grafting cost?

Cost varies based on the type and size of graft needed. At your free consultation we provide an exact written quote and walk through 0% financing options. Many cases bundle grafting and implants into a single financing plan.

Can I eat normally during bone graft healing?

Yes — with some restrictions for the first 1-2 weeks (soft foods near the graft site). Most patients are back to a normal diet within 2-4 weeks. We provide specific guidance based on your case.

What types of bone graft material do you use?

We use processed bone from approved tissue banks, synthetic bone materials, and in some cases bone harvested from your own jaw. The right choice depends on your case — we explain options and recommendations at your consultation.

Will my implants definitely succeed after grafting?

Modern bone grafting techniques have very high success rates, and combined with 3D-planned implant placement, the outcome is highly predictable. We discuss success rates and your specific case at your consultation.
